Day 28: two steps forward, one ginormous leap backwards into a dismal, unknown fate

And no, I’m not being dramatic at all!

Last night, whilst taking out a baggie of soiled cat litter (I feel that detail adds to the overall drama of the impending doom), I did something so mindless, so stupid, I struggle to type it out now. I ran up the two stairs leading from our garage back into our house. Feel free to gasp out loud.

evil 1

Pure evil!

Ok, so maybe that doesn’t sound too terrible to you, but seeing as though I’m only 29 days post hip surgery, this was a HUGE no-no. As soon as I planted my right foot on the first stair, a shiver of burning pain surged up my leg and then up my spine. The force of that landing took the wind right out of me. I was instantly cursing myself for being so dumb. I have been feeling fantastic lately, so much so that as I turned to enter back into the house from the frigid garage, I did only what feels natural to me: run. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I immediately tried to run (no pun intended) interference by popping two Advil and slapping the ice pack on my hip, but it was too late. I climbed into bed at 9:30, but an hour later, when I still couldn’t get comfortable, I had to limp back down to the kitchen to get a muscle relaxer. Though I’ve tried to be done with all of my surgery meds,  there was no way I was going to fall asleep without it. Not only was I in pain, but I was certain that I did something to ruin the progress of my healing. I think that is what hurt me the most.

unassuming, but evil nonetheless

Things were really no better this morning and as soon as the clock struck 8:00 A.M., I was on the phone with the doctor’s office. Unfortunately they were in surgery all day, so the secretary was left with a frantic, somewhat incoherent message from me. When Dr. Rosneck’s P.A. returned my call, her voicemail helped quell some of my fears. Basically, I’m suffering from some major inflammation. Rest, ice,  and Ibuprofen are my new best friends. My enemy: stairs. All of them. And trust me, I completely understand the irony of this situation since only two days ago I was blogging about dominating stairs. Well, I’m on to you, stairs! I’m going to post signs on all of my staircases to remind me not to climb too quickly. You’ll rue the day you tried to lick me, stairs. RUE, I say!

We should face every obstacle with your determination. “You’ll rue the day you tried to lick me, (insert major obstacle here). RUE, I say!”

    I love this.
